Several times in the past few weeks, in different contexts, I’ve overheard references to corporate America’s war on its own people. True. I’ve written about this quite a bit myself. Corporate America answers only to the bottom line and thus, in that vein, seeks to render people powerless and under the impression that they are in need of corporate products and services. Anyone who sells anything might fall into this Venn diagram of people and corporations—the middle overlapping section being perceived need.
Key word: perceived.
So it’s to many companies, organizations, corporations, whatever-sellers’ benefit for you and I to think we’re lacking and in need—whether that’s in the area of food, aesthetics or anything else. A big area of focus for me has been food/health, so that’s where I’ve seen this economy of perception most obviously and clearly wielded.
